AEW Dynamite Results and Review (8/17/22): Title Unification Match Announced
AEW Dynamite was packed full of major matches and announcements. There was a huge return and matches were added to the AEW All Out card. Although it was a good show, there were still some down moments during it. Here’s my review of AEW Dynamite.

We Hear from CM Punk
This was one of the best promos in recent memory. It was important for this to happen because it really helped build the unification match between CM Punk and Jon Moxley. This version of Punk that is sort of a heel, but not really is excellent. He just speaks the facts and doesn’t seem to care whose feelings he hurts in the process. Punk calling out Hangman Page and Page not coming out seemed very strange, however. I’m not sure why they did that because it makes Page look incredibly weak.
Seeing Moxley come out and confront Punk was great. The two finally trading blows helped build the hype for the unification match, which we won’t have to wait long for. It was announced during AEW Dynamite that the unification match will be held next Wednesday. Overall, this was an amazing promo between Punk and Moxley and really helped with the build for their match. If you weren’t excited before, now you are.
Powerhouse Hobbs Interview
Powerhouse Hobbs gave a short interview about Ricky Starks. It was a nice promo from Hobbs, but this feud is a bit odd. Hobbs turned on Starks and then doesn’t really want anything to do with him. Starks has been sort of chasing Hobbs, but the two seem like they don’t want to fight each other. Overall, it was a nice little promo from Hobbs, but it’s unclear what is happening with this feud.
2-Out-Of-3 Falls Match
Bryan Danielson (of Blackpool Combat Club) vs Daniel Garcia (of Jericho Appreciation Society)
This match was the one I was most excited about, and it did not disappoint. Bryan Danielson puts on a clinic every time he steps foot in the ring. Very few can match his technical ability and his viciousness. Daniel Garcia is the best young talent in all of professional wrestling. He is reminiscent of a young Danielson, which is what made this match so special.
These two men have very similar styles of wrestling, so it was no surprise they put on another incredible match. Garcia is getting a much-deserved push by beating Danielson in late July and gaining the first fall by putting him to sleep again. Ricky Steamboat was the special guest timekeeper, which was nice, but I wish he had a bigger role in the match.
Danielson winning was the right call though, so now the series is tied 2-2. Meanwhile, Garcia contemplating leaving the Jericho Appreciation Society is long overdue. He always felt like the one person in the group who didn’t quite fit in. Garcia does not need to be in the Blackpool Combat Club. The group has four members already and also has Wheeler Yuta, another really good young talent. I think Garcia will leave the Jericho Appreciation Society and go off on his own. Overall, this was an incredible match that everyone needs to watch.

Swerve In Our Glory (c) Interview
Swerve in our Glory was backstage with Tony Schiavone and said they were going to give Private Party a title shot this Friday on AEW Rampage. I think Private Party are extremely talented, but it doesn’t make any sense why they randomly get a title shot. They just crept into the No. 5 spot in the rankings, so that must be reason. There are so many teams that are more deserving of a shot at the titles. FTR has been atop the rankings forever and they haven’t gotten a title shot in quite some time. The tag team titles need to be on the AEW All Out pay-per-view, so they need to start a feud soon to build to that match.
Varsity Blonds (Griff Garrison & Brian Pillman Jr.) vs Gunn Club (Austin & Colton Gunn)
This match was a waste of time, very little time, but still a waste of time. It lasted about thirty seconds, maybe even less. At the start of the match, I started a tweet, and the match was over before I finished the tweet. However, I did enjoy Billy Gunn, Colton and Austin’s dad, aligning himself with the Acclaimed after Austin and Colton turned on him. There are other ways to accomplish this, so it was not needed on the show and took up some television time. There are plenty of other people that deserve the airtime, especially the women’s division. Overall, this was a waste and didn’t need to happen on AEW Dynamite.

We Hear from Jungle Boy
This was a solid segment from Jungle Boy and Christian Cage. Jungle Boy challenged Cage to a match at All Out, but Cage declined. It is an interesting way to build the match that is still going to take place. It was nice to see these two men finally just brawl in the ring with Jungle Boy getting vicious and really attacking Cage. AEW has been doing a great job with the build for this match and this segment really helped.
Toni Storm vs KiLynn King
This match was better than I thought it was going to be. Storm is at the top of the women’s division and showed why she belongs there, but I’m not sure we really needed this match on the card. Storm is No. 1 in the rankings for the women’s division and defeating someone like KiLynn King, who has only wrestled on AEW Dark and Dark Elevation, doesn’t really amount to much. That isn’t me saying King isn’t a good wrestler, but she isn’t as established as other women on the AEW roster. After the match, AEW announced another match for All Out. Thunder Rosa will be defending her AEW Women’s Championship against Toni Storm. The way AEW did it made it seem that because Storm beat King, she got a shot at the title. Overall, Storm should have faced someone else in the women’s division.

La Faccion Ingobernable (Andrade el Idolo, Rush, & Dragon Lee) vs The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) & ???
The Young Bucks were looking for a partner and they found one in the returning Kenny Omega. Omega returned to join the Young Bucks in the trios tournament. As a whole, this match was really good. I’ve said numerous times before, but AEW knows how to put on incredible trios matches, and they did that on AEW Dynamite. Omega didn’t look like he was 100%, but that was okay because he was still amazing.
Andrade is one of the most underutilized wrestlers in AEW. He needs a big push because he’s a huge talent with a lot of in-ring abilities. Dragon Lee hit one of the most insane moves I’ve seen in recent memory. If this match was any indicator of how the tournament will go, fans are in store for a high-quality tournament. Overall, this match was really impressive and gave fans a preview of what’s to come in the AEW trios tournament.
